The Lago Vista Starry Skies organization will be hosting a Stargazing Party on Saturday April 8, 2024 from 8pm - 10:30pm at Sunset park. This event will be an astrological advantage serving as a prelude to the April 8, 2024 Total Solar Eclipse, and will be open for all residents to partake in. The event is a “bring your own telescope” event (like last time). There will be some local astronomers on hand to help point folks at interesting objects in the skies and to help individuals who are new to astronomy to get more familiar with their telescopes. There will be one 20” telescope available to provide spectacular viewing of deep sky objects as well as a 12” and many smaller telescopes. There will be 400 solar eclipse glasses to give away for those that don’t have them for their guests. Seeing as this is 2 days prior to the event, that could be good timing. No food or beverages will be provided, though anyone attending can bring these things with them. It will be a “red light” event as bright and white lights ruin anyone's night vision, taking a while for eyes to adjust to the night sky. We plan on having a couple of red led road lights near the entrance of the Park in order to make it easier to find at night for local residents.
